Creative Color Wheels

Grade 5 is just wrapping up a unit exploring the color wheel. They learned about color mixing and tertiary colors, and collaboratively created their project requirements and grading system. As decided upon by grade 5 students, each student was responsible for:
creating a color wheel using all 12 colors (primary, secondary, and tertiary) in order, using a variety of materials (such as watercolours, pile pastels, coloured pencils, markers etc), incorporated into a unique design (other than your basic circle color wheel). They completed peer reviews in progress, self assessments when they finished, an received comments and a rubric score from me at the end. Here are some shots of students working and completed assignments! Way to explore color and demonstrate your learning in such creative ways grade 5!!

Mrs. G's Studio

Here are a few photos of what I've been up to lately in my "art studio" at home! I love using recycled items that I have, in many colors textures and materials to express ideas and things I have and love! Welcome to my mess :) Do you have a special place or time you like to create art at home? Use your imagination this weekend and enjoy!

Art ASA Openings!

Students in grades 3,4 and 5:
Do you love art?

Do you like to get messy?
Do you think it would be really cool to design your own t-shirt?

If you answered YES to any of these questions you should sign up now for a quarter 4 ASA: Screenprinting with Mrs. G on Thursdays after school.  The session starts after spring break (Q4 activities run April 1-May 25) and there are still a few spots open so have your parents email Crecencio Gomes (gomesc@asbindia.org) if you are interested in joining.

You will learn the basic screenprinting process (used commercially to mass print t-shirts, posters, and other materials and labels), create your own design on your own screen, and print your design with your friends on posters, canvas tote bags, and a t-shirt! All materials are provided and will go home with you at the end of the last class, come join in the fun!

*You can also email to sign up for grade 4 and 5 Arts & Crafts on Mondays after school with Mrs. G in Quarter 4!

We've got spirit!

Shapes into Forms

This week grade 4 has been exploring the elements of shape and form. We are learning how to draw realistic 3D forms complete with shading and shadows from a light source.  Here's a video we watched in class that gives a very quick demonstration for the drawings we'll learn to make in this unit.  He makes it look so easy! Before you know it grade four will be displaying drawings like this around school as well...

Psykopaint!

Here's a cool website that allows you to create a digital artwork (from one of your own photos or starting from a blank canvas) in the style of famous artists.
Among the artists you can imitate are Degas, Monet, Van Gogh and many more!  You can save small versions of photos you create on your computer as jpeg files for free once you register as a user (need to provide email/password to log in: check with your parents on this!) Or simply explore and play around with different styles, brushes, colors etc....

Here's a photo I made into the style of Monet (we've been studying him in grade 2 as an influential artist!). I had a photo of lilly pads I took in Australia in January and I decided to make my own version of Monet's waterlillies.. See the before and after!

I've started a new tab on this blog called "Cool Art Links"...
Email me (garrettam@asbindia.org) your favorite programs and I'll include your picks on this page! There are many ways you can now continue to make art even if you dont have pencil and paper available... Explore what you can do with digital art and share with us what you love to do!
